Summary
AA100003 is a two-piece knock-down X-frame table leg that interlocks at the joint and bolts to a pre-drilled mounting plate, with no welding required. The flat-pack design reduces carton volume for freight and warehousing, while tool-free assembly uses four screws and two leveler feet per leg.

Knock-Down Table Legs AA100003: A Tool-Free X-Frame Design Built for Flat-Pack Shipping
For distributors shipping furniture internationally, every cubic foot of carton volume has a cost attached to it. Knock-down table legs address that cost directly: instead of shipping a pre-welded frame, the leg ships as separated components that lock together without a torch, a bolt through the center joint, or a trip back to the factory when a weld fails in transit.
Our AA100003 X-frame leg set is built around exactly that idea. It is a two-piece steel frame that interlocks at the X-joint and bolts to a pre-drilled mounting plate, with no welding on either side of the joint and no specialized tools needed to put it together.
How the knock-down joint works
Most X-frame table legs on the market are welded as a single piece at the crossing point. That keeps the joint rigid, but it also means the leg ships at its full assembled height and width, and any inconsistency in the weld becomes a visible defect.
AA100003 takes a different approach. Each leg is supplied as two separate steel bars, and each bar has a matching notch cut at the crossing point. The two halves slot into each other at that notch, forming the X shape without a weld bead or a visible center fastener. The mounting plate then sits on top and is fixed to both leg halves with four flat-head screws, which also locks the X angle in place once assembled. Two screw-in leveler foot pads thread into the base of each leg, giving installers a way to fine-tune stability on an uneven floor after the frame is set up.
Why this matters for freight and warehousing
Because the two leg halves separate at the notch joint, AA100003 can be packed flat rather than as a fixed-height frame. For a distributor shipping container loads of table legs, that difference compounds across a full shipment.
- Flatter cartons stack more efficiently on a pallet
- Reduced carton height means more units per container
- Flat components are less prone to transit damage than a tall, welded frame
- The same flat-pack format works whether the legs ship to a regional warehouse or direct to an end customer
This is the same logic behind RTA (ready-to-assemble) furniture hardware generally: the cost of a product is not just the material and labor, it is also what it costs to move it. A leg that disassembles into a flat profile is simpler to quote, store, and ship than one that does not.
Tool-free assembly, start to finish
On the receiving end, assembly does not require a wrench set or specialized hardware. Each leg box contains the following.
Two leg halves per leg, joined by an interlocking notch
One pre-drilled mounting plate per leg
Four flat-head screws per leg
Two screw-in leveler feet per leg
The mounting plate has a mix of round and slotted holes, which gives some flexibility in aligning the plate to an existing tabletop drill pattern or insert location before the screws are driven home. Once the plate is screwed down over the interlocked X-joint, the assembly holds its shape the same way a welded frame would. The difference is in how it got there, not in the finished geometry.
Finish and design language
AA100003 is finished in black matte powder coating over a trapezoid-profile steel tube, which keeps the visual language in line with the industrial X-frame aesthetic currently popular across dining and conference table programs. The crossing X silhouette reads as a deliberate design choice rather than a purely structural one, which is part of why this frame style continues to show up across both residential and commercial furniture lines.
Talk to us about your table leg program
If flat-pack shipping cost or assembly time is a factor in your current table leg range, share your target markets, preferred table heights, and expected order volume. We can review those inputs and recommend whether AA100003 fits your program, along with any dimensional adjustment or sample plan needed for a first order. Dimensional and surface-finish customization, OEM/ODM cooperation, sample development, and batch order support are all available once specifications are confirmed.
