On June 22, 2024, more than 20 of us WEKIS members gathered at Baiyun Airport, excited to embark on a trip to Singapore and Malaysia designed to deepen friendships and foster team spirit. This was more than just a simple trip; it promised to take us deep into cultural wonders and stunning scenery.
Day 1: Embark on a Cultural Journey in Singapore

Upon arrival in Singapore, more than 20 of us WEKIS staff were filled with excitement. Our journey began with an immersive exploration designed to foster friendships and deepen connections. The bustling streets welcomed us to Merlion Park, where the iconic Merlion statue proudly overlooked Marina Bay, reflecting Singapore's blend of modernity and tradition. The nearby Gardens by the Bay is an oasis of tranquility, with lush greenery contrasting against the city skyline.

As night fell, we arrived at Resorts World Sentosa, a vibrant entertainment destination. Here, we shared stories amidst laughter and enjoyed a delicious Hainanese chicken dinner – a dish that not only satisfied our taste buds but also symbolized the unity and strength of our team.

Day 2: Embracing the Diversity of Little India and Malacca

On Day 2, we took a deeper look at the culture of Singapore. We started in Little India, where the vibrant colors, aromatic spices, and vibrancy of South Asia were evident everywhere. A leisurely car journey allowed us to discover hidden gems – intricate temples, bustling markets – and soak up the blessings and energy of this vibrant community.

Continuing our journey, we were warmly welcomed by a Nyonya family, where we experienced the hospitality and traditions of Nyonya culture. The Nanyang Sambo Banquet not only satisfied our taste buds with delicious crab dishes, but also strengthened our sense of belonging and shared traditions. In historic Malacca, the colonial architecture of Dutch Square, St. Paul’s Church, and the poignant stories of the Portuguese Red House took us into the legendary history of Malaysia.

Lunch was a sumptuous Nanyang Sambo crab, which embodied the local culinary skills. In the evening, we savored a Nyonya dinner, and the aroma of spices sparked our conversation all night long.
Day 3: Exploring Malaysia’s Rich Cultural Heritage

After entering Malaysia, we continued our reverent tour of Sam Po Kong Temple and Sam Po Kong Well, sacred places where ancient legends and history merge. The floating mosque and traditional Malaysian stilt houses captivated us with their architectural wonders against the backdrop of tranquil waterscapes.

The grandeur of the Prime Minister’s Office and Putra Plaza highlighted Malaysia’s governance and royal traditions; the exterior of the palace exuded an imperial aura; and the Merdeka Square, as a symbol of Malaysia’s unity and freedom, deeply moved each of us.

Lunch showcased the diversity of Nanyang cuisine, a fusion of various flavors that reflected Malaysia’s multicultural structure. Dinner was dominated by Bak Kut Teh, whose fragrant broth symbolized the harmonious blend of personality and strength in our team.

Day 4: Landmarks in and around Kuala Lumpur

In Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Twin Towers soared into the sky and were majestic, highlighting Malaysia’s ambition and innovative spirit. Batu Caves is a spiritual sanctuary surrounded by limestone cliffs dotted with vibrant Hindu temples, while the tranquil Cloud Gardens is a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Lunch was dominated by delicious breaded chicken – a feast for the taste buds and the soul.
Day 5: Making Lasting Memories and Farewells

Our final day was filled with creative activities at the Zheng He Exhibition Hall, where we immersed ourselves in a pewter craft workshop that reflected the complex teamwork that is so vital in our daily work. At Singapore Airport, we marveled at the efficiency and charm of Changi Airport and recalled the seamless journey that brought us closer.

Lunch was a light yet delicious oatmeal prawn or butter prawn, symbolizing the cultivation of friendships and fond memories. Dinner was a hearty Southeast Asian-style feast that echoed the warmth and nostalgia of our shared experiences.
